Thanks for your question.  This can be a tricky one to answer as in some countries private really does mean private and very little information is available!

For a UK company try FAME. It should have at least some information on any company registered with Companies House. Filing requirements will vary depending upon the size of the company.

Orbis is the European version of FAME, however please be aware our subscription only covers the bigger companies, so a very small private company won't be there.

Mergent Online, Capital IQ, Thomson One and Bloomberg all have records for some private companies, but the amount of data is variable. Often only a latest turnover figure is given and latest number of employees.
